A natural stone - heavy material, therefore they are used to decorate walls made of bricks or blocks that can withstand the weight of the cladding. The stone has irregular shape and requires adjustment, as well as grouting.

Clinker tiles and thermal panels

This type of finishing is ceramic tiles imitating clinker brick (see photo). The finishing brick itself is in a good way wall cladding, but it is usually fixed at the stage of laying the walls. Clinker tiles can be used for repair and restoration of old buildings, which makes it more versatile.

  • easy installation;
  • resistance to atmospheric moisture;
  • does not require painting, does not rot;
  • can be used to decorate walls made of any material.

Flaws:

  • If fastened incorrectly, thermal deformation is possible;
  • vinyl siding is not durable and can be damaged by impacts;
  • light shades siding gets dirty quickly.

Wood finishing

Wood - the most environmentally friendly material. Thanks to its ability to “breathe,” wood finishing is possible for both wooden buildings, and for brick and block houses. Like siding, fastening wood finishing performed using the ventilated facade method.

The frame is made of bars, between which insulation boards can be laid. All wooden elements must be treated with an antiseptic, and the finishing material itself is recommended to be painted or coated protective equipment for wood.

Finishing wood may have different shape: block house - imitation of rounded logs, imitation of timber, planed facade board.

Advantages of wood finishing:

  • natural breathable material;
  • wood can be mounted on any wall; installation does not require special skills;
  • wood can be easily painted in any shade, including natural shades;

  • susceptibility to rotting;
  • the need for periodic processing.

Which material is better and cheaper for exterior finishing of a house?

Having considered the description of facing materials, you can draw conclusions and make a choice. For facade cladding wooden house it is better to use a ventilated facade made of siding or finishing wood. This finish will allow the house to “breathe”, it not afraid of shrinkage and seasonal deformation, harmonizes perfectly with the style of a wooden house.

Plaster, finishing stone or tiles, as well as ventilated facades with any finish, are excellent for finishing a house made of bricks and blocks.

The design of the facade of a private house is something that needs to be decided on before the construction of the building begins. Many factors go into deciding on your exterior design style. This article will discuss the features of choosing a façade design, its style, as well as materials for proper decoration.

Features of facade design

Regardless of the facade of which building you need to decorate: country brick house or a cottage within the city, a wooden country house or frame house with attic – yes general features, which determine the choice of facade style, which must be taken into account.

Design defines:

  • climate of the region;
  • construction and cladding material;
  • form of construction;
  • stylistic directions of neighboring houses.

Climate influences the choice of materials for construction and façade cladding, which, just like the shape, set the tone for the design.

Regarding the last point, this is your desire not to stand out from the general picture of the residential area, or, on the contrary, to stand out.

The area and number of storeys have virtually no effect on the design; the difference will be in the budget spent: it is clear that the construction one-story house will leave less material and funds than for a two-story building.

Materials

You need to approach work on the facade of your house not only from a creative side, but also from a practical one. The facing material matters, and its choice should be based not only on budget, but also on durability and environmental friendliness. The range is large, but we will consider the most popular cladding materials.

Brick is the most in demand and quite durable material. There is a range of colors on the market from light yellow and red to dark brown shades. The combination cladding looks very nice different colors. Masonry occurs at the stage of wall construction.

When purchasing, you should rely on the following indicators:

  • Resistance to destruction up to 100 cycles of freezing and thawing.
  • Withstands loads up to 250 kg per 1 sq. cm.
  • Moisture absorption is no more than 13%.

Facade plaster– there are mineral, silicone, acrylic, silicate. Various color solutions. Quite reasonable price range. Corrosion-resistant if an antiseptic is added to the mixture. The plaster version of cladding is especially good for buildings in the Mediterranean and Provence styles.

Siding is a relatively new facing material that has captivated us with its availability and wide range of colors. Easy to install. There is wood, base and vinyl. Wooden is the most environmentally friendly and nice option, but not the cheapest, in this case they are replaced with ordinary wooden paneling.

If you decide to use siding, choose light shades, as it quickly fades in the sun.

Stone or tile – natural materials, expensive, but environmentally friendly. The tiles are made from shell rock, limestone, dolomite and sandstone. That is why the material has natural shades - gray, brown, yellow, light and dark versions. The tiles are frost-resistant and do not deform.

Natural stone is a durable but expensive option, which is often replaced with artificial stone. At the same time, it is much easier to install, and the color spectrum is wider.

But the design doesn't end with the cladding.

To decorate the facade of the house there are decorative elements:

  • rust;
  • cornice;
  • Column;
  • arch;
  • socket;
  • panel;
  • platbands;
  • pattern.

These molded elements are usually made of the following materials:

  • Gypsum– all castles and palaces are decorated with plaster stucco, but nowadays they try not to use this material. There are several reasons for this - high cost, poor weather resistance and heavy weight.
  • Polymer concrete– thanks to attempts to improve the properties of gypsum, it was produced this material. Its advantage is its resistance to moisture, low cost and significant ease of installation.

  • Expanded polystyrene– foam plastic, easy to install, but the material is very fragile. Its service life does not exceed 8 years, but it is increased by coating with acrylic, then the service life can last up to 15 years. Polystyrene foam decor is the most cheap way, but not the most reliable.
  • Polyurethane foam– more expensive than other materials, but lasts up to 30 years. Resistant to humidity and temperature differences. Doesn't crumble or crack. Polyurethane stucco should only be tinted once every ten years.

  • Fiberglass composite– durable, light weight and elastic. Corrosion-resistant material, not subject to deformation, resistant to climatic conditions. Has a wide range of design solutions.

There are also such creative enthusiasts who know how to decorate the facade of a painted house, even plastic bottles or a mosaic of multi-colored glass. Painting is one of the cheapest methods, completely self-sufficient, and in some stylistic areas does not require additional decor.

You can find private houses decorated with wood or wooden panels; buildings made of concrete blocks are often decorated with imitation timber.

Color solutions

Any facing material has its own color. Most popular options for private houses - red, yellow, white, green and others. But the choice of color for your home also determines the area in which it is located.

For houses located within the city, bright, saturated colors are chosen.

Houses surrounded by lush vegetation, located in a forest area, are painted in warm pastel shades to highlight the natural landscape.

Colors have different properties and can influence the psyche. Therefore, it is worth approaching the choice wisely so that own house did not become an annoying object. If you gravitate towards rich, bright colors, then add them as accents. Eaves painted your favorite red or green, or a bright roof and doors on a white house.

Some practical advice, which you should listen to:

  1. If you have the financial opportunity, then visualize your home, this is possible thanks to special program. To do this, contact a specialist.
  2. If you don’t have extra funds, don’t rush to buy material for the whole house. In the store, select several color options you like and try them out in real life, so you will understand how the color will look in daytime and evening light. How it will fit on the texture of the facade.

Deciding on styling

Let's consider the most popular stylistic architectural trends in the construction of private houses.

Modern style

It was born thanks to a combination of many - modern, high-tech, country, classic, incorporating their best features.

Exterior in modern style distinguishes:

  • Straight geometry, clear simple lines.
  • Vast area for construction.
  • Panoramic windows, maximum glazing of the facade to achieve natural light.
  • Restraint in decorative elements.
  • Use of eco-friendly materials.
  • Combination of finishing materials.

A modern house harmoniously combines all these features. There are no clear rules in the use of materials for facade finishing; several options can be combined at once.

Country

It includes French Provence, Spanish haciendas, Russian and English rustic style and American ranch.

They have common features:

  • Decoration of both the exterior and interior of the house only natural materials– wood, stone, ceramics, tiles.
  • Only pastel shades are used to paint the facade; white looks beautiful matte walls. Allows dyeing contrasting color decorative elements, but it still shouldn’t be bright.
  • The windows are small, sometimes there are shutters, window sills and trim.
  • Massive wooden doors.

External country decoration can be in the style of houses in English rustic style– wooden sheathing of a white matte facade with wooden platbands, windows and doors.

In French Provence the façade is faced with natural stone, the roof is covered with stone tiles, the windows are decorated with carved wooden bars and flowers in pots.

More bright option- with a reference to the Latin direction. In this case, the walls are decorated with multi-colored tiles, and the roof is covered with clay tiles. Windows with wooden shutters and trim.

All these options will be good for houses in the village, country and country cottages.

Baroque

Baroque architecture is truly a magnificent sight. Smooth shapes, pomp, wealth and luxury reflect this style.

Anyone will recognize Baroque, but we will still look at its features:

  • openwork stucco;
  • gilding;
  • complex shape facade;
  • thread;
  • columns.

The appearance of this house should be luxurious, reflecting the status and position of the owners. The façade is decorated not only with gilded figured stucco moldings and carvings, but also with columns and domes. Huge windows and the balconies are decorated with figured cornices, patterns and stucco moldings. The house has an expansive front entrance with a wide staircase decorated with plaster statues. And the building itself must be very massive.

This is the style of palaces, and therefore it is not suitable for small cottages.

Romantic style

Progenitor romantic style was French Gothic of the 12th century. And today these features are drawn on the facades of buildings in this style.

Distinctive features:

  • forged decorative elements;
  • stucco;
  • columns;
  • multi-level facade;
  • pointed towers;
  • French and arched windows;
  • rusty.

Such a house is tiled with natural stone tiles, but the modern approach also allows for artificial ones. The roof is covered with slate tiles. Windows and balconies are decorated with forged lattice, and the corners of the facade are decorated with rustications.

Byzantine style

The style arose with the birth of the Byzantine Empire in 395. And combines the best architectural techniques of the Roman Empire and Greece, with considerable influence oriental culture– attraction to luxury and decoration. In Russia it is beloved and even dear architectural direction, you just need to look at our temples and cathedrals. Byzantine culture greatly influenced Russian culture.

Distinctive features:

  • Brick or stone cladding.
  • Arcades of columns with figured capitals.
  • Cross-domed facade.
  • Lined up vertically narrow windows with rounded cornices.

A house in this style is faced with dark or light brick; the structure itself has asymmetrical shapes - straight lines at the bottom and a round dome at the top. The wide entrance area is decorated with mosaics. Facade painting is welcome.

design project of facades.

I will demonstrate to you what a facade design project is from a private house using the example of this conditional (pretty standard) cottage:

This is a pretty nice and inexpensive cottage with an area of approximately 200-250 sq.m. Let's say it was built 10-15 years ago, when there was not such a variety of materials for exterior decoration, and therefore it looks rather boring and ascetic.Let's see what we can do with it... (click on the link below)

In order to begin work on the façade project I need to have the drawings according to which the house was built. If for some reason you do not have such drawings, then I necessary take measurements Houses;

Then a meeting is necessary to conclude an agreement and discuss wishes for the facade project andfuture appearance of the house;

After that, based on the drawings or measurements, I build a three-dimensional computer model , on the basis of which work will be carried out ondesign (project) of facades ;

Usually in a project one or two, maximum three design options are enough, but in in this case In order to demonstrate how you can decorate this house, I will show you 4 different options.

1. Classic style cottage.

Perhaps the most common style in private country architecture in our country. I highlighted the entrance group by adding a massive balcony on columns above the entrance, which completely transformed the entire main facade. The walls remained plastered, but I replaced the plinth cladding: instead of the old artificial stone I used natural sandstone. IN decorative finishing lightweight facades are used architectural elements from expanded polystyrene, as well as products from architectural concrete.

2.Cottage in Georgian (English) style.

An equally popular style in suburban construction. Attached entry group with a massive pediment and columns adds solemnity to the main facade. Ancient English mansions were, as a rule, brick, so in this version I used clinker for cladding the facade, imitating old brickwork. Clinker is beautiful, durable and practical material

3.. Light façade decorative elements are also used in the decoration.

Cottage in Country style (half-timbered). In the exterior decoration of this option, techniques are used that imitate the medieval. The first floor was often stone, and the second was frame (half-timbered). The use of natural building materials in exterior decoration (wood, natural stone) gives the design authenticity. Brackets and wooden fencing are mandatory attributes of this style.

4.Cottage in Portuguese style.

Distinctive Features this style are bright, rich colors and covered terraces, stretched along the entire facade (in our climate, the terrace can be replaced with glazed veranda). In terms of the facade decorative elements used, this style is close to the “classical” one, but is distinguished by greater originality and “lightness”, as well as the widespread use of wood products. An integral element of style is natural ceramic tiles on the roof.

Thus, by ordering design project of facades , you will receive a thoughtful concept of facades with full elaboration of all architectural details. In the project, I will select colors, materials, and decorative elements for exterior decoration that will completely satisfy you, both architecturally and financially. It is important to do all this before proceeding directly to construction work
