Options for buildings made from pallets. How to do it yourself?

Let's take a closer look at wooden pallets. We can say that this is a horizontal plane with sides. What will we see if we turn it upright? It resembles a screen, but what if you put not just one next to it, but, say, ten? As a result, we get a fence! With a little imagination, you can give such a fence an original and beautiful look.

To calculate required quantity pallets, you need to know their width and the perimeter of the site. Then they need to be cleaned from chips, various irregularities, and dirt. We dig a trench and install support pillars(metal pipes), make drainage (sand, stones), pour concrete.

We attach pallets between the posts, and the height of the fence is regulated by the number of pallets. The top edge of such a fence can be trimmed, the surface itself can be painted, and you can also attach various decorations. In the end you will succeed beautiful fence for minimal money.

Continuing the fencing theme, pallets can be used to make decorative screens and vertical green walls that can be used to camouflage old buildings or divide large plot to zones.

Such a building made from pallets for a summer house, like a gazebo, will decorate your site. It will be openwork, filled with light and at the same time cozy and secluded. You also need to make a foundation for it, clean the pallets and treat them with protective compounds.

By installing them on top of each other, we form the walls, but before this we need to make the floor (can be made from the pallets themselves) and the frame of the gazebo on which we will attach the pallets.

The frame can also be made of wood, made of pillars installed at a certain distance and cross lintels. You can grow decorative vines along such walls.

Using the same principle, you can make a summer house. To close the gaps between the pallet boards, we recommend sewing up the walls from the inside. This will create pockets on the outside where you can plant them in the spring. ornamental plants, spices, and edible greens.

Another option (more labor intensive)– we embroider wooden pallets and build a house from individual boards. We make the frame from thick transverse ones, and thin sheathing of the walls. All nails must be removed. Window frames can also be made from the same boards.

First we make the floor by laying logs, which we cover with chipboard or lay planks on. Then we build a frame for the walls and roof, and cover our house with boards. Covering the roof chipboard sheets, on top - roofing felt and flexible tiles.

Now the summer house is ready, all that remains is to paint it. It can be used as a room for work and relaxation. I really like this design small size your children, whose imagination will easily find use for it in their games.

In warmer countries, such houses are built both for temporary and permanent residence. They are equipped with all necessary furniture and other amenities.

The idea discussed above can also be used to build utility structures on the site. A shed made of pallets will look modern and original, without disturbing the overall picture. The result is beautiful solid construction for minimal money.

Structures made from pallets can be covered with siding if desired. In this case, not a single person will guess what the building is made of until you enlighten him on this matter.

In addition, pallets can be used to create another construction option - a chicken coop.

Wood - environmentally friendly pure material, so pallets are very useful if you decide to have poultry. The scheme is the same as for building a house, but you don’t have to make a foundation if the structure is temporary, for the summer. Clearances in the pallets will be provided natural ventilation and illumination. If desired, you can sheathe the chicken coop on three sides with chipboard sheets.

Pallets also make a durable dog house. The main thing is to provide good coverage for the roof to prevent water from getting inside, and to sheathe the walls to protect the pet from the wind.

Someone will ask - what about the bathhouse? We would not advise you to use wooden pallets for this, except perhaps for using a bathhouse in the warm season or for building a summer shower.

But if you want to take a steam bath in winter, you will have to use other materials, because the sauna must retain heat for a long time, so you will have to insulate the walls.

As you can see, many different buildings can be made from pallets for the garden. This is a very profitable investment of time and effort, since the material is not at all expensive, and the boards are very durable, which means the structures will last longer.

To build a bathhouse, you can use improvised means, for example, ordinary pallets. The process is labor-intensive and requires special care when selecting insulating materials, but well worth the effort. The result will be a full-fledged steam room.

Content:

A traditional log house takes a long time to build and is expensive. Without a large budget, steam lovers try to find a way out of the situation and build budget steam rooms from less expensive materials. Some have gone even further - they build bathhouses from pallets. The pallets themselves are inexpensive, but the process is quite labor-intensive, and can only be undertaken with certain engineering and construction skills.

Features of a bath made of pallets

In addition to the relative cheapness of such a structure, the following advantages of a bathhouse made from pallets can be highlighted:
  • Light weight. Thanks to this, you can save on pouring a powerful foundation.
  • Good thermal insulation. At proper insulation Such a bathhouse can maintain the temperature no worse than a log house.
  • Operational installation. If you prepare materials and design in advance, construction will take only a few weeks.
  • Various design options. Such a bath can be decorated in any style and sheathed with material to your liking.
As for the shortcomings of the structure, there are many of them:
  • Material costs. The building requires the installation of high-quality insulation. It also needs to be thoroughly vapor and waterproofed. The cost of these materials is quite high. Add to it the obligatory external and interior decoration, and it won’t be as cheap as it seems at first glance.
  • Complex installation. If insulation work is not performed correctly, the steam room will be damp and cold.
  • Fragility. Such a building is considered temporary and is designed, depending on the quality of materials, for 1-3 years.
  • Demanding on materials. Pallets must be good quality and the same type.
Overall it's not bad, a budget option for temporary use. But if you want to further minimize costs, then you can build a bathhouse from pallets with your own hands without a foundation, using them as a floor. In this case, you will need to prepare a cleared area in advance. However, such a bath can only be used in summer, and for use in winter time she doesn't fit.

Preparing for the construction of a bathhouse from pallets

The basis of any construction is proper design. Therefore, first you need to draw up a plan for the bathhouse. Traditionally, it consists of a dressing room, a steam room, a washing room and a relaxation room. On at this stage it is necessary to calculate the amount of materials required and stock up on them.

The main element of construction is the pallet. These designs must be selected with special care. Old products made from rotten wood are not suitable for this type of work. Broken, insect-damaged, rotten pallets are also not suitable for construction. In addition, they should all be the same size.

As for fastening elements, you will need a lot of them to give rigidity to the structure. Self-tapping screws, nails, corners must be chosen only galvanized ones, since they are not exposed to negative impact moisture.

The best insulation material is mineral wool (in this case you need to protect it as much as possible from moisture) or expanded polystyrene. For maximum energy savings, it is also advisable to use aluminum foil. Among waterproofing materials, give preference to rolled ones.

Don't forget also about antiseptic and fire-fighting compounds, which will need to be used to process all the wood before building a bathhouse from pallets.

Construction of a foundation for a bathhouse from pallets

A steam room made from pallets does not require a powerful strip or tile base. It will be quite suitable columnar foundation from asbestos-cement pipes with a diameter of about 10 cm.

We carry out the work in this order:

  1. We dig four holes around the perimeter of the future steam room, 1-2 meters deep. We make intermediate recesses according to the size of the pallet so that each individual element rests on four pillars.
  2. We place the pipes in the holes made and check with a level the evenness of the located parts.
  3. We fill a bed of coarse sand, spill it with water and tamp it thoroughly.
  4. Cooking concrete mortar(waterproof cement M200, sand, fine crushed stone, water in a ratio of 1:4:7.5:3) and pour it to the top into each pipe in turn, burying the wire at the edges into the concrete to secure the lower trim.
To carry out further work, you need to wait until the foundation is completely dry. In hot weather it must be moistened and covered plastic film. After drying, the film must be removed and allowed to stand for 1-2 days.

Installation of a floor from pallets for a bath

Before you begin installing the frame, you need to treat each pallet twice with an antiseptic and fire retardant, waiting for the previous layer to dry.
  • We fix the pallets together using four galvanized nails. The design should be the size of the area of the future bathhouse.
  • Carefully treat with rubber bitumen mastic.
  • We attach it to the posts face up using concrete fasteners. According to the foundation construction technique, the junction of four pallets should be on a pole.
  • Overlap the top by 15-20 cm with a layer of rolled waterproofing material. For these purposes, you can use roofing material.
  • We install a second structure of the same type made from pallets on top, face down, fixing it with self-tapping screws or nails. It will take about eight fasteners to attach each such part.
  • Place in each pallet mineral wool. The cut out insulation element should be a couple of centimeters larger. When laying it, we compress it.
  • We select the thickness of the heat insulator taking into account the thickness of the pallet. It should be almost twice as large.
  • We cover the resulting “box with insulation” with a second pallet, face down, and secure it with fasteners. Completely cover the flooring this way.
  • On top, between the resulting recesses, we cover a second waterproofing layer with an overlap of 15-20 cm.
  • We treat the formed logs with rubber-bitumen mastic.
To lay the floor, you need to remove the boards from the pallet, treat them with protective compounds, sand them and mill them using the tongue-and-groove system.

Installation of sauna walls from pallets

Before you start building the frame, make preparations on the ground in advance in the form of a kind of sandwich - two pallets attached to each other with a layer of rolled insulation.

We install bath walls from pallets in the following order:

  1. We fasten the two resulting elements together vertically. This is necessary for efficiency and ease of installation.
  2. Let's prepare individual designs with a window opening. If the part is cut along the base, we strengthen it with an additional board, which can be removed from another pallet. This is necessary to impart rigidity and further convenient installation window.
  3. Install individual elements along the edges of the foundation and in places of partitions.
  4. We fasten them together with screws and corners.
  5. After completing the installation, we install the windows and door. The latter can also be made from a pallet, insulating it and covering it with clapboard. In this case, the hinges must also be galvanized.

It is not advisable to place pallets horizontally due to a decrease in load-bearing capacity.

Construction of a roof for a bathhouse from pallets

Considering the temporary nature of the structure, as well as the fact that it is undesirable to place a large load on the foundation, the best option is to construct pitched roof and its combination with the ceiling.

We build it in this order:

  • On one side we install horizontally connected pallets that were used to install the walls.
  • We knock down according to size future roof pallets in one design.
  • We cut out triangular parts from peculiar sandwiches for horizontal installation between partitions.
  • We fix the assembled system on the roof using corners and nails.
  • We lay two layers of vapor and waterproofing in a checkerboard pattern, overlapping by 20-30 cm.
  • We seal the joints with sealing tape or reinforced tape.
  • We fill the slats, dismantled from the pallet, with a thickness of 3-4 cm in increments of 10-15 cm for installation roofing material. The best option- ondulin. Its weight is only 3 kg/m2.

Please note that there must be a ventilation gap between the sheathing and the roof.

External cladding of a bathhouse made from pallets

The best option for exterior finishing - metal siding, since it has a light weight - 2.4-3.5 kg/m2.

During the process, we follow these instructions:

  1. We fix the vapor barrier membrane with an overlap of 15-20 cm. Glassine can be used for these purposes.
  2. Carefully seal the joints with metallized tape.
  3. We fill the slats vertically in increments of 0.4-0.5 meters. They can be removed from the pallet and treated with protective compounds.
  4. We attach sheets of metal siding.
  5. We install trim on windows and doors.

Please note that it is better to place the trim horizontally to improve the rigidity of the structure.

Interior decoration of a bathhouse made from pallets

For lining the inside of the steam room, lining made of hardwood is best suited. We start finishing work from the floor, then we sheathe the ceiling and lastly we start the walls. Before finishing, take care of the issue of connecting communications (electricity, water supply), install a drain and think about ventilation.

In general, we adhere to this order:

  • We cover the floor with pre-milled and sanded boards from a pallet. If desired, you can buy ready-made tongue and groove boards.
  • We fix aluminum foil on the ceiling combined with the roof, overlapping it by 15-20 cm, making an approach to the walls. The material is easy to damage, so we work with it very carefully.
  • We cover the walls with the same layer. Please note that the reflective surface must be turned inward.
  • We carefully glue all joints and areas damaged during installation with metallized tape.
  • We fill the lathing on the ceiling and walls in increments of 0.5 meters and a thickness of 2-3 cm.
  • We mount wooden lining on the ceiling, then on the walls.
  • We install an electric heater, fencing the surfaces around it with a galvanized sheet of metal.
After finishing works You can start arranging furniture and arranging shelves. By the way, pallets can also be used to create furniture in a bathhouse.
