How to make a sun shelter on the beach. Advice from experienced craftsmen for independently erecting a high-quality awning

Review of a portable, lightweight self-folding awning. An interesting contraption, which may well be in great demand during the holidays.

UPD on the site there was an error “delivery is paid”. corrected free

Usually at the beginning of the review I talk about all sorts of abstract topics, smoothly leading the reader to the substantive part.
This won’t happen here; I felt some kind of stupor after the workout. They say that physical activity improves cognitive function, but it seems to me that this is not true. Now the closest association to what is happening in my head can be called the well-known “snake”. One thought rushes back and forth, growing little by little, only to eventually disappear again. So it's better to get straight to the point.
That's what they promise.

PACKAGING AND APPEARANCE.

The assembled tent fits into a one-kilogram flat half-meter round cover. The case is quite transportable, thanks to the presence of handles.

I immediately opened it and the tent jumped out at me, miraculously pushing itself from two-dimensional space into three-dimensional space. (Here I spent about 10-15 minutes trying to find and give here a link to an informative old computerra article, it seems by Bird Kiwi about the holographic principle of the universe. There was something in the title about angels at the end of a needle." If anyone can help, I would be grateful, I have re-read this article with interest more than once and now I could not find the saved copy).
Unfolding the awning takes 3-5 seconds thanks to the elastic frame. The downside to this is the puzzling folding task. To fold this tent without the help of an instructional video (and the instructions included with the tent are not very informative), you need to have excellent spatial thinking.

I got a light green awning, there is also a blue and silver-blue one.

The awning is a regular tent without a front. Unfold, lie down and rest. There is no unpleasant chemical smell.

The dimensions are impressive relative to the original folded state.

The tent can easily accommodate one adult or comfortably accommodate 2-3 children. There is also a modification with a retractable floor, but this awning is significantly smaller, about one and a half meters.

This is what it's like live. As you can see, there is plenty of room for a child.

And there's plenty of standing room too

In addition to the awning, the kit includes a small bag with pegs. There is also a second option for fastening - these are pockets into which it is proposed to pour sand. Well, maybe with a symbolic wind this will be useful, but in a good way you need to use pegs, especially since it is not difficult.

The material... well, God knows what material, some kind of synthetic fabric. But! Everything is made decently - straight, neat stitches, overall neat appearance. There are no symptoms of Chinese cheapness here.

An important detail, without which this awning would lose a fair amount of practicality - there is a ventilation mesh along the entire perimeter. I think that everyone reading this has at least once found themselves in a tent heated by the sun. It's not very pleasant, even if the window is open. There are no problems with this at all. Exceptional airflow and absence of any hint of stuffiness.

It's not stuffy at all inside. However, it is worth noting that sunlight passes through these openings without interference and you can only count on complete shade inside if the awning is positioned correctly.

I came across comments on this tent on Ali, people wrote about the weak floor. Here I agree, the ideal option would be a floor made of something dense like oxford. My wife, who took the tent to the dacha for a couple of days for field testing, confirmed this. She placed a rug folded in half under the floor. In general, something less thick would have been fine, but there were two kids constantly hanging out in this tent, so there was a question of not only keeping the floor intact, but also making it soft. If there are any pebbles, such a floor will not last long without a layer. At the dacha, it’s not a problem to find something to put down, but if you go to the beach, then only to the sandy one; on rocks without a layer, the bottom will not hold up for long. In fairness, it is worth noting that stronger floor material means more weight.

The second point is that it would be nice to organize a couple of pockets there on the sides. This would not add any weight at all, but in terms of convenience it would be nice. Put a book there, a phone or a bottle of water.

Here's some video. Ideally, I would shoot it in nature, but by the time I get out somewhere, the whole summer will pass

As for the assembly... well, this is a real exercise for the mind. I finally gave up on following the instructions in the pictures and found a video on YouTube.

GENERAL IMPRESSIONS

So far positive. If you do not take into account the thin material of the floor, then there is nothing to complain about. A fairly light and at the same time roomy thing, which can make a vacation on a hot day definitely more comfortable, and in the case of children's vacations, less harmful (less chance of getting sunburned). It is clear that this thing will not protect you from mosquitoes or rain; its purposes are completely different.

With coupon HXFTENT5 the price becomes $24.99, which is 2 bucks less than the lowest price on Ali. And it seems like there is no track, you can immediately track the movement of the parcel.

Judging by the large number of Russian-speaking comments on the above-mentioned Ali, the chances that here on Muska there will be owners of such an awning are quite high. Please leave your impressions in the comments.

If you are a fan of relaxing on the beach, then a homemade sun canopy will be a real godsend for you. When comparing it with a large umbrella, you can be sure that it will cost less, since it is made from scrap materials, and it is easy to make it yourself, in the garage or at home. The design is lightweight and collapsible, so it can be laid even in

Preparation of materials

If you decide to make a sun canopy, then you need to prepare certain tools and materials:

  • hand drill;
  • PVC pipe;
  • bolts;
  • tent pegs;
  • rubber hammer;
  • plugs;
  • washers;
  • tarpaulin.

To carry out the work, it will be necessary to modify the plugs, but this will be discussed below.

When constructing a sunshade using the above materials and tools, it is necessary to modify the plugs. Holes for a bolt are made in each of them; the fasteners must be inserted along with a washer and nut, and then tightened well.

The next step is to install caps on the long PVC pipes. The plugs must be hammered in with a rubber hammer. This will allow them to be installed more thoroughly. PVC adapters should be installed on the end of the pipes on the other side, and the master should go over them with a rubberized hammer. Plugs without bolts must be installed on one end of the fourth pipe, while adapters must be installed on the other. This will provide a supporting structure for the awning. Using a coupling, these blanks will be turned into tall poles for the front part of the canopy, and two short ones will be located at the back. It is necessary to make holes in the upper part of the part; the paracord will pass through them.

When making a sun canopy, it should be supplemented with a tarpaulin or any other fabric. Paracord is passed through the corners of the material and pulled in different directions. The ends of the rope should be tied to stakes and driven into them at an angle to the covering. A long pipe needs to be installed in one of the corners of the front part of the structure. The short one is located obliquely. The tension of the tarp can be adjusted using a rope by passing it through the holes that are located at the top of the pipe. Once the two pipes are installed, the paracord should be adjusted again. The bolts should go through the cutouts in the tarp, this will help increase the tension of the fabric. The resulting mount must be secured with another nut, only then the coating will not fly off in gusts of wind. At this point we can assume that the canopy is ready. You can use it.

Alternative canopy option

A camouflage net for a sun canopy can serve as a roof. But the second version of this design can be made by you using a simpler technology. To do this, you should prepare sticks, linen, rope, pegs, and nails. These tools and materials are easy to find in your garage or home, closet or attic. Thus, the canopy will be completely free.

The sticks will act as supports to support the awning. You will need 3 blanks, which can be made of aluminum or wood. To create a frame, you need supports, the length of which can vary from 110 to 150 cm. Two such elements need to be prepared, while one stick will have dimensions from 200 to 220 cm, but the thickness of the support will be 25-30 mm. Having found a rope or twine, you must cut it into four pieces, the length of each of which will not exceed 1.5 m. You can borrow pegs from an old tent; those cut from wood yourself will do, their length should be 45 cm, at their ends you need to drill holes for the rope or install self-tapping screws, which are left half screwed in. You will need two nails, each of which will be approximately 80 mm long.

For reference

This beach sun canopy will not last long and is not intended for repeated use. This is due to the fact that the design is carried out in a hurry.

Build process

On two sticks, or rather on their ends, it is necessary to hammer nails to half the length. The remaining stick should be used to drill holes at its ends with a distance of about 5 cm from the edge. At this point, we can consider that the frame is almost ready. If the tubes are made of aluminum, then the studs are wrapped with electrical tape.

When you are making a beach sun canopy, the next step is to work on the fabric, the width of which should be less than the distance between the holes on the supports. The excess can be cut off or tucked in place. The length of the sheet is usually about 220 cm, you can take that too. Now the craftsman uses a knife or scissors to make holes in the corners of the awning. A prepared rope is threaded through them and tied into knots. The material must be connected to the supports of the future canopy.

Now all you have to do is put everything together; for this, two posts with nails at the ends are dug in on the shore, the nails are installed on the crossbars with holes, you can hang the awning along the width, the hanging edges will be located in the center. The prepared pegs need to be driven into the ground with a hammer.

Stationary canopy

The canopy from the sun and rain can also be made in the form of a stationary structure. To do this, you should prepare gravel, sand, wooden beams, and cement. You will need fasteners for the frame, as well as a mixture to disinfect wood or protect metal from corrosion. The roof can be covered with polycarbonate. But if the canopy is made of fabric, then tarpaulin or any other dense material, for example, a polymer fabric made of polyamide threads, will do. When making canopies from the sun and rain for a summer house, you can use wood.

At the first stage, a place for construction is selected, then markings are carried out on the site using cords. The soil is removed along it to a depth of 15 centimeters, and nests for supports are installed in the corners. A wooden blind area made of boards can be installed along the perimeter; a sand and gravel cushion is poured into the recess.

Frame assembly process

Pipes or beams are cut vertically to size, taking into account the length of the part buried in the ground. The bottom of each nest should be filled with gravel and sand, which are well compacted. After installation, the supports must be leveled using a plumb line, after which they are concreted. From above, such elements can be connected with thin beams or pipes, which will form the upper trim.

The most common roof design is the semicircular shape. In this case, metal pipe arches can be used as a supporting frame. A camouflage net for the sun canopy can also be purchased and installed, and you can have a picnic without the fear of your family being plagued by mosquitoes.

Roof formation

When choosing polycarbonate for a canopy, it should be cut to size and a protective profile should be placed on the ends. Polycarbonate is secured to the rafters with self-tapping screws, and drainage strips should be installed at all corners. A sun canopy net will be the best solution for relaxation. It is strong and durable and comes in different sizes, such as 6 x 9 m, 3 x 18 m, 6 x 6 m.

A sun canopy for the beach, simple in design, will be appreciated by many vacationers. Unlike an umbrella, it creates a lot of shade; costs less than an umbrella, as it is made from scrap materials; The design itself is lightweight and collapsible, so it can easily fit into a hiking backpack. How to make such a canopy with your own hands, watch and read the step-by-step instructions.

Materials

To make a sun canopy with your own hands, prepare:

  • hand drill;
  • rubber hammer;
  • inch PVC pipe (4 pcs. 90 cm each and 4 pcs. 60 cm each);
  • inch PVC adapter – 8 pcs.;
  • inch PVC couplings – 4 pcs.;
  • plugs – 8 pcs.;
  • 0.5 inch bolts and hex nuts for them - 4 pcs.;
  • washers (2 pcs. for each bolt);
  • paracord;
  • tarpaulin;
  • tent pegs.

Step 1. Modify the four plugs. Drill a hole in each for a bolt. Insert the bolt, washers and nut according to the diagram shown in the photo. Tighten the bolt thoroughly.

Step 2. Place the resulting plugs on two long PVC tubes and two shorter ones. To ensure they sit thoroughly, hammer them in with a rubber mallet.

Step 3. Attach PVC adapters to the ends of the same pipes on the other side. Also, for strength, go over them with a rubberized hammer.

Step 4. Thread plugs without bolts onto one end of the remaining four pipes. On the second - adapters.

Step 5. This will give you support structures for the awning. Using a coupling, these parts are converted into two tall poles for the front of the canopy and two small ones for the rear. You need to drill holes in the top of the assembled parts. You will pass paracord through them when assembling the structure on the beach.

Step 6. To assemble the canopy, you need to spread a tarpaulin or prepared fabric at the installation site.

Step 7. Run paracord through the corners of the tarp, pulling it to the sides.

Step 8. Tie the ends of the rope to the stakes and drive them at an angle into the tarp.

Step 9. Install a long pipe in one of the corners of the front part of the canopy, and a short pipe diagonally. Adjust the tension of the tarp using a string, passing it through the holes in the top of the pipes and through the bolt.

Step 10. Install two more pipes and readjust the paracord. The bolts should pass through the cutouts in the tarp, increasing its tension. Secure the resulting fastening with another nut so that the tarpaulin covering does not fly off during gusts of wind.

Today you can buy tourist tents a variety of shapes and sizes, but you can sew it yourself. And the point is not that it will be half the price, but that you can sew an awning to suit your needs and do exactly what you need. Well, I just like to do everything myself, because the process itself is interesting. And today we will talk about how to sew a camping awning with your own hands.

The first thing you need is to find a suitable fabric. In small towns this can be a serious problem. You don't often find travel fabrics in stores. I had a hard time finding green, as I was told, “tent fabric” without a name. Most likely it was an Oxford. Price 75 rub. per linear meter was more than attractive and I bought 8 meters. Fabric width 1.5 meters. If you sew two pieces of 4 meters each, it will work out just fine awning 3x4 meters, which is what I need.

Please note that in stores the fabric is often not cut, but rather torn from the roll along the fibers. But the weaving of the threads in the cut does not correspond to the parallel-perpendicular axes of the roll. This way, the torn edge of the fabric will not be perpendicular to the side of the cut. And, if you need the exact geometry of the finished product, take at least half a meter of fabric to spare and cut it strictly at right angles.

I cut my piece of fabric in half. Along the edges there is a strip with punctures and deformation of the fabric, which remains during production. All this needs to be cut off, at least from those sides that will be sewn together in the middle of the awning. If the fabric has a front side, then we fold the two pieces face to face. The bottom layer should protrude 5-6 millimeters from the top.

We wrap these 5 millimeters up and stitch them on a typewriter.

Then we bend the top layer towards the seam, as if unrolling an awning. And we sew so that the line goes along the edge of the wrapped strip, retreating 2-3 mm from it. For convenience, you can turn the awning over and sew from the wrong side.

The seam must be treated with some kind of impregnation so that it does not allow water to pass through. There are different recipes for self-breeding, but you can also use store-bought products.

Now you need to process the perimeter of the awning. We turn the fabric from the front side to the wrong side by 5 millimeters, then stitch it again in exactly the same way.

To make it easier and faster to install the awning, I decided to sew loops around the perimeter. I don't like eyelets in this regard. Over time, they tear out under good load. The places where the hinges are attached need to be strengthened. To do this, I cut 6x6 cm squares from thick leatherette and sewed them into places under the loops.

Then I cut identical pieces of tape used to hem the trousers, folded them and ironed them a little to fix the shape. All that remains is to sew the loops onto the squares around the perimeter of the awning.

That's basically it. The tent is ready and you can try it out on your next trip.

The tent turned out to be approximately 1.4 kg. weight, which is quite comparable to some store models. 600 rubles spent. with a little (2015). Time-wise - several hours of cutting and sewing. The result, I think, is very good, except that I would like to make the weight a little less.

An awning with this arrangement of loops can be easily installed

Awnings are used for many purposes. With their help, they protect the car from rain during the warm season. An awning over the porch makes the house cozy and attractive. Every summer resident dreams of building a tent over a picnic area.

A tarpaulin awning can be assembled in a matter of minutes.

First, let's talk about a do-it-yourself awning for inexperienced builders.

We quickly build simple and reliable awnings

You can make the simplest portable tent from thick fabric in a few hours. Tarpaulin is ideal. Metal rings need to be sewn along the perimeter at a distance of 35-45 cm. The places where the rings are sewn are reinforced with square patches. They are made from thicker fabric. The diameter of the rings can be from 5 to 8 cm. This will allow you to easily attach the mobile tent to the trees. If there are no trees, use wooden stakes 180 cm high. The stakes are tensioned using a rope, like a tent. To prevent the fabric from sagging, a support is installed in the center - a stake 2 m high. Its top must be made smooth so as not to tear the fabric. You can simply wrap the upper end with tape or pull the bottom of a plastic bottle of a suitable diameter onto a peg for a tight fit. We also make the center of the fabric compacted.

An original tent from the sun and summer rain is made from two PVC pipes and an ordinary shower curtain.

A shower curtain awning will provide good protection from rain and sun.

Pipes 6-7 m long should be bent in the form of arches. Two opposite edges of thick oilcloth must be covered with fabric loops. Now the canopy can be pulled over both pipes and the structure can be installed in tension.

Do you want to give the fabric covering of the awning water-repellent properties and make your canopy reliable protection from rain? You can do without buying special fabric, but make it yourself. Choose one of 3 methods:

  1. Dissolve casein glue (250 g), lime (12 g) in water (750 ml). In a separate bowl, make a soap solution - 15 g of laundry soap per 1.5 liters of water. Pour soapy water into the first solution. Soak the fabric and dry completely.
  2. For cotton or linen fabric, take gelatin (125 g), laundry soap (125 g), alum (300 g) and dissolve it in 8 liters of water. The mixture is brought to a boil with constant stirring. The fabric is kept in the solution for 2 hours and dried without twisting.
  3. For 3 liters of water you need to take 100 g of baby soap, heat the solution to 50° and soak the fabric in it for half an hour. Then soak the material in a 10% solution of potassium alum twice for 20 minutes. After the first and second immersion, the fabric should be rinsed in cold water and finally dried.

Each of the impregnation options makes ordinary fabric waterproof.

Tent for more experienced builders

It is easier than other structures to attach an awning to an existing wall of a house or fence. First of all, we choose a place, prepare the territory and make all the necessary calculations.

Attention! First of all, rely on your strengths; do not take on the complex construction of a stationary awning without experience. You can make a good awning on your own only if you have a detailed drawing.
