How to make a wooden folding table. We save space and create comfort by making a round sliding table with our own hands according to a detailed drawing

A DIY folding table is an indispensable piece of furniture for those who love to relax in nature. The presence of such a piece of furniture allows you to have a picnic in comfort, placing food and drinks not on a mat, but on a comfortable table. This homemade folding table made of wood will not take up much space in the car, and at home you can hide it in a yoga mat cover and hang it on the wall.

We make a roll table

To make a wooden folding table with your own hands, you need to purchase round blocks for making legs, as well as parquet-like boards for the future table top. In addition, you will need bolts to connect the structural parts. Before starting work, it is recommended to make drawings of the future product indicating the dimensions of all elements.

The thickness of the legs should depend on the degree of load that the finished table will have to withstand. The height of the legs is determined by user preference. In most cases, it is 70-75 cm. The blanks need to be cut so as to obtain the pads of the desired length. Then the blanks for the tabletop are cut. All cut areas should be treated with coarse sandpaper, since the cuts formed by the saw are uneven and can injure a person.

At the next stage, you need to make the tabletop yourself in accordance with the prepared drawings. Most craftsmen prefer to make it square or rectangular, although this technology can also be used to make a round or oval tabletop.

To work, you will need nylon tape (similar to those used to make handles on sports bags and school bags). Two fragments should be cut from the tape, equal to the length of the future tabletop, and then the edges of these fragments should be treated with fire.

The tabletop boards should be located at the same distance from each other (this is true for both rectangular and round products). To achieve the desired result, you can use two small boards that need to be laid between the boards being connected. Homemade boards are laid with the bottom side up and nylon strips are attached to them using staples and a hammer.

Along the edges of the structure, in accordance with the drawing, two removable wooden planks are placed with pre-drilled holes for bolts, to which the removable legs will be attached. Thanks to these planks, the tabletop will be durable and will hold its shape.

The next step is to make holes inside the wooden legs with a drill and then install threads for the bolts.

Now the design is ready.

When assembled, such a homemade table looks like an ordinary stationary one, but when disassembled, it is easily wound into a roll, into which the legs and side boards are inserted. Now you can put it in a rug cover and hang it on the wall.

Collapsible table from an old stool

Very easily and quickly, without special drawings, you can make a square or round collapsible table from an old stool and any material that is suitable for making a tabletop. This product can be hung on the wall in a garage or utility room for storage.

To work, you will need an old Soviet stool with twist-off legs.

All you need from the stool is a silumin frame, which should be unscrewed from and divided into 4 equal fragments using a hacksaw.

After this, you need to make a tabletop of any shape (square, rectangular, round). For these purposes, any available material is suitable - chipboard, plywood, a piece of plastic window sill. The size of the tabletop can be arbitrary, but before assembling the product, it is recommended to prepare a drawing of it, this will help to avoid errors when taking measurements.

You can, for example, take two pieces of plywood 1 cm thick, glue them together with PVA glue, and then fasten them with self-tapping screws. After this, the corners of the product must be rounded with a jigsaw so that the sharp corners of the tabletop do not become a source of injury. The edge of a round table should also be treated so that it is sufficiently smooth and safe. The finished tabletop must be covered with stain and two layers of varnish, and then left to dry completely. During this time, you can, for example, hang it on the wall by attaching a special loop to it.

When the tabletop is completely dry, 4 parts of the sawn stool frame should be attached to its corners. The distances from the edges are calculated in such a way that the screwed-in legs do not protrude beyond the edges of the tabletop. Table legs can be made from round timber or polypropylene water pipe. You can also take ready-made legs from an old table or tube TV.

To work, you will also need a pin with an M10 thread, which should be divided into 4 fragments of 8-10 cm each. Then you need to wrap electrical tape around the pin so that the pin fits tightly into the propylene pipe or hole drilled in the timber for future threading. If necessary (to increase the volume), you can put a piece of garden hose on top of the hairpin. This structure should fit tightly into the hole in the leg. It must be positioned strictly in the center.

The pin should protrude from the pipe by about 1.5 cm - this is the part that will be screwed into the silumin frame.

Then the space between the stud and the pipe wall must be filled with epoxy resin and left for a day until completely hardened.

The product is ready! This table can easily be placed in the trunk of a car or hung on the wall.

Many of us love to go outdoors, and we take with us a lot of household equipment - pots, plates, forks and much more, and also stock up on food. According to tradition, we start cooking, or simply start taking ready-made food out of bags and other devices, and the question immediately arises, where to put it all? Some will prefer the option with a regular tablecloth laid on the ground, which, in my opinion, is not very convenient, and let’s not forget about the local insects, which are eager to try the brought delicacies.

The author of this article invites you and me to make a convenient folding table, which will clearly be better than the above written method. The work ahead is not difficult, anyone can cope with it. And, probably, the main advantage of this work will be that the table will not take up much space when transporting it to a vacation spot, since it will be foldable.

For a homemade table you will need the following.

Tool:

Wood hacksaw;
- roulette;
- ruler;
- pencil;
- sandpaper;
- construction stapler;
- hammer;
- drill.

Materials:

Round wooden stalk, 2 cm in diameter, 120 cm long (you can take a thicker one, but this is at your discretion);
- 3 pcs. planks (for the table and fixing element) 2.5 m long, with a section of 1 x 5 cm;
- 4 things. transportation bolts;
- 4 things. brass threaded nuts – inserts;
- nylon flat cord 120 cm long;
- construction staples 6 mm.

Let's start by cutting the legs for the table, you should get four equal parts, each 40 cm.

Next, we take the planks that we will use for the tabletop, cut them into 10 pieces, each 60 cm long, for this we use the cutting tool you have. Then you need to saw off two more blanks, also 60 cm each, they will later be used as a fixing element for the tabletop.

When all the parts are sawn off into the parts we need, we grind, remove and round off the sharp edges, and use sandpaper.

Next, you need to prepare a flat nylon braid; to do this, cut two pieces of 60 cm each, then use a lighter to burn the edges - this is so that over time the edges do not unravel.

Now we take all the slats that we left for the tabletop and lay them out in a row. You need to leave a small gap between them, it should be uniform along the entire length. To do this, we use a small wooden block, which we insert into the slot on both sides.

Then we take the prepared nylon braid and lay it out along its entire length, then, using a construction stapler, we begin to fix it to the planks; if the stapler does not penetrate the rail well, you can use a hammer as an additional striking force. After this, we carry out the same operation on the second side of the table.

Next, take a drill and make a hole in the four corners, as shown in the photo, insert a transport bolt into this hole.

After this, we take two fixing strips and place them across the tabletop, mark and drill through holes, and insert a bolt.

Let's move on to making the legs.
We take the legs, and in each of them we find and mark the middle, then using a drill we make a hole, using a drill with a diameter of 7 mm, the depth of such holes should be 25 mm. To make drilling more convenient, we clamp the legs in a vice, wrapping them with soft cloth, this is so as not to damage the wood.

When all the holes are ready, install bushings with internal threads inside.

Next, you can screw in the legs, you should get the following.

Now, for the complete set, I decided to make a simple tourist table - a folding bed. When folded, this table looks like a small plywood suitcase. The table design project involves making a plywood table top. This material has sufficient strength, and its specific gravity is quite acceptable for use as the main material for this type of portable furniture. The plywood suitcase is easy to carry and takes up little space in the trunk of the car.

To make it, I prepared the tools and purchased the necessary materials.

Tool

Since the furniture assembly scheme is based on materials made of plywood and wooden beams, the appropriate tool was needed:

  • drill;
  • jigsaw;
  • screwdriver;
  • 6 mm wrench;
  • chisel;
  • level;
  • tape measure, square, ruler, pencil.

Materials

I purchased materials according to the list I compiled:

  • plywood sheet 140 x 70 x 1 cm;
  • timber 800 x 4 x 4 cm – 1 pc.;
  • plastic handle – 1 pc.;
  • suitcase locks – 2 pcs.;
  • fastening screw-screw 100 x 6 mm with a wrench grip – 4 pcs.;
  • wing nut ø 6 mm – 4 pcs.;
  • furniture hinges – 2 pcs.;
  • screws 30 mm – 30 pcs.

I decided to make camp furniture from two folding tabletops measuring 70 x 70 cm each. I determined the height of the legs to be 60 cm so that they fit freely inside the suitcase. At the same time, this height of the legs should ensure a comfortable position for a person sitting at a table on a regular chair.

After preparations for assembling a homemade camping table with your own hands were completed, I began step-by-step implementation of the points in these instructions.

Step-by-step instructions on how to make a tourist table

  1. A sheet of plywood was cut with a jigsaw into two parts measuring 70 x 70 cm.
  2. The timber was cut into pieces for the subframe: 70 cm - 4 pieces, 620 - pieces, and for legs 600 mm - 4 pieces.
  3. From pieces of timber 70 cm and 62 cm, I assembled 2 subframes, connecting them with screws at the junction points.
  4. I laid plywood on top of the frames.
  5. Using a screwdriver, I secured the sheets of plywood with screws around the perimeter of the frames.
  6. Using a chisel, I made 2 mm indentations in the back side of the junction of the frames to each other for furniture hinges.
  7. The hinges were placed in the recesses and secured with screws.
  1. In the corners of the frames I made 4 through holes ø 6 mm with a drill.
  2. I screwed 4 screws into the upper ends of the legs with a wrench.
  3. On one side of the frame I secured a plastic handle with screws.
  4. In the places where the table tops meet, I attached suitcase locks to the frames with screws.
  5. I inserted the screws of the legs with their threaded ends into the corner holes of the frames.
  6. On the outside, the threaded ends of the fasteners were secured with wing nuts.
  7. I placed the table on its legs and checked the horizontality of the tabletops with a level.
  8. Then he removed the legs and placed them inside the table tops of the folding furniture.
  9. I folded the tabletops and locked the locks. The table took a stowed position.

To once again make sure that the tourism furniture was assembled correctly, I reassembled it and checked all the fasteners. This is what happened in the end.

Cost of materials

At the end of the work, I calculated the costs of materials to make folding furniture:

  • sheet of plywood 140 x 70 x 0.9 cm = 150 rubles;
  • timber 800 x 4 x 4 cm = 8 m x 110 rub. = 880 rub.;
  • plastic handle – 1 pc. = 15 rub.;
  • suitcase locks – 2 pcs. = 20 rub.;
  • fastening screw-screw 100 x 8 mm with a wrench grip – 4 pcs. = 20 rub.;
  • wing nut ø 8 mm – 4 pcs. x 2 rub. = 8 rub.;
  • furniture hinges – 2 pcs. – 10 rub.;
  • screws 30 mm – 30 pcs. in stock.

Total: 1103 rub.

Labor costs

It took 1 hour to cut the plywood sheet and cut the timber with a jigsaw. Assembling the table took 2 hours. In total, 3 hours were spent making the sliding table with our own hands. During the work, he used a respirator and safety glasses.

For those who have little experience in assembling furniture, it will be useful to watch the corresponding video, and then get to work. Such furniture will be indispensable for a tourist going on a hike for a picnic in nature.

During the warmer months, it's tempting to get outside to enjoy some delicious snacks, scenery, and conversation. In order to organize an event at the highest level, you will need special furniture. There is nothing difficult about making a folding picnic table. To do this, just follow our recommendations.

Today, two types of mobile furniture are most widespread. The first is a table equipped with folding legs that can be effortlessly tucked under the tabletop for ease of movement. The second model is a suitcase table, where the tabletop is a structure resembling a suitcase. When folded, the legs are located inside, but if the furniture needs to be unfolded, they are removed and combined with the body using a special mechanism.

Table with folding legs Suitcase table

Each of the presented options has its own advantages and disadvantages. It is much easier to create folding picnic tables with your own hands; in addition, it will take a few seconds to unfold it. However, the second type of table is ergonomic, takes up very little space, and therefore does not create problems when moving. Many people place accessories inside the cabinet, such as napkins or cooking utensils.

Features of material selection

For beginners, it is better to use wood

A homemade folding table can consist of various materials. Beginning craftsmen use wood when working, as it is easy to process and does not require the use of an extensive set of tools. Wooden furniture has a presentable appearance, so it will become a real decoration for a meal in nature. For a folding table, you can purchase beams, plywood sheets or chipboard. The options listed are great for making wooden products. If you want the fruits of your labor to last as long as possible, use special varnishes and compounds. Craftsmen do this to protect tables from the negative influence of the external environment (solar radiation, excessive dampness, and so on).

To make a strong and durable product, it is recommended to use plastic or metal. To process them, special tools will be required, and the work itself will require a lot of effort. But as a result, you will get excellent chairs and tables, ideal for outdoor recreation. Finished furniture will be distinguished by its reliability and long service life.

What tools will be useful in your work?

To create a folding table with your own hands, you will need:

  • electric jigsaw (instead, you can use a hacksaw to process wood);
  • an electric drill, which will be needed to create holes;
  • hammer;
  • screwdriver;
  • tape measure and ruler for taking measurements;
  • pencil;
  • level.

How to make a camping table?

1 2

The following diagram will help you successfully build a folding picnic table with your own hands:

  1. Cut out a tabletop for a camping table with the required parameters. If you wish, you can make this element from several boards, firmly fastening them together.
  2. Make a frame. Place suitable boards on the tabletop, ensuring that they extend a couple of centimeters above the edge on each side. Using a jigsaw, cut the boards to the required length and place them on the tabletop again to check that the parameters match the finished drawing. Draw the outlines with a pencil to screw in the screws along them.
  3. Cut out the elements from wood on which the legs will later be installed, and then make holes in them. For the second pair of legs, create supports and place them between the frame and the supporting objects. This will prevent the legs from colliding during the folding process.
  4. Combine the frame and top to form camping furniture. Fasten the individual elements to each other using special products. Secure the stop bars and supports. Using a drill, make 4 holes and insert bolts into them.
  5. Cut legs for outdoor furniture. In the upper part, round the elements, cut the lower area of the legs at an angle. Make holes for fasteners.
  6. Combine the individual pieces to form an extendable table. Attach the first pair of legs using a crossbar, and then secure using a bolt and threaded fastener. Repeat this procedure using the next pair of parts.
  7. As an addition, you can equip the collapsible table with handles. This will make it much easier to transport the dacha attribute yourself.

The warm season attracts both children and adults to spend as much time as possible outdoors. It is ideal to devote your day off from morning to evening to a walk and sports games, but we must not forget that you also need to restore energy with snacks. Areas equipped with tables and chairs for those interested are not so often conveniently located outside the city, where it is calmer, the air is cleaner, and the place is secluded enough to relax with your own company.

Solution for outdoor recreation

When looking for places specially designed for active pastime, people are often limited by the specific requirements of campsites. And lightweight portable furniture allows you to solve the problem of choosing a place and diversify your vacation by visiting new areas for relaxation.

Different models of portable folding furniture for tourism and camping provide excellent outdoor recreation for both one person and a whole group of friends. Tents, chairs, tables make real comfort possible near the river or on the seashore, in the forest or in the mountains. Many will argue: the closer to it the guests arriving from the bustle of the city are, the more complete the unity with nature is. And yet, society strives to leave the tradition of young people relaxing as “savages”, and to make their own time spent in nature more cultural and calm.

Advantages of folding tables

A vacation planned in nature may involve many “surprises,” including thunderstorms or rain. A very successful device for accommodating a group of friends or family, ensuring that vacationers can take free poses and conveniently use the table area for arranging dishes (plates, glasses, especially disposable plastic ones) is a folding picnic table. And in case of bad weather, you won’t have to spend lunch outdoors sitting on wet grass or cold ground. Chairs and a table conveniently located relative to each other in height will allow vacationers to sit in comfortable positions and make their weekend complete. A folding picnic table will also be appreciated by people of the older generation or a group in which girls prefer to dress neatly even for a walk in nature.

Requirements for camping furniture

When folded, camping furniture is very comfortable to transport, since it does not take up much space in the trunk. A folding picnic table with chairs is one of the main devices, which, when unfolded, forms a frame complex of a table top and benches or chairs. The main requirements for tourist furniture are:

  • compactness,
  • ease,
  • strength.

Materials for a folding table with chairs

Among the materials for folding tables, fabric ones are the leading ones (the fabric must include polyester, since it optimally withstands various weather conditions, and caring for such fabric will not require much effort). Often chairs and tables are made of plastic. This material copes well with various types of dirt, is easy to clean and does not require maintenance. The only thing that should be taken into account when choosing such furniture is some fragility to which plastic is susceptible at cold temperatures. Such furniture also needs to be hidden from large hail. Aluminum frame parts provide strength and durability of the structure, as well as its lightness. Therefore, fabric bases are often attached to an aluminum frame, and when folded, such a table literally occupies the area that is formed by the metal parts of the structure folded together.

Where to use folding structures

We love to spend evenings, weekends, and organize vacations with family or friends in our own yard or in nature. When traveling outside the city to your favorite clearing with a large group, you want to relax in comfort. If you have a car such as a van or minivan, transporting such a pleasant place of rest as a folding picnic table is no problem. If the country house is equipped with such a design that is installed quickly and easily, the weekend will become a traditionally pleasant and comfortable holiday in the fresh air. In addition, this will allow you to increase the limited space in the yard by removing the transforming picnic table with benches on occasion. Often such structures are created in a universal wood design that fits into any landscape.

How to construct a table from fabric and aluminum tubes

When folded, a folding picnic table looks like a large box or suitcase, which, when unfolded, transforms into a structure of chairs (four or six) and a tabletop that is quite stable and reliable. Having golden hands and a little inspiration, you can make a folding picnic table with your own hands. If you want to limit yourself to a lightweight design made of fabric and aluminum, you will need:

  • bend aluminum pipes, ensuring correct and symmetrical dimensions;
  • secure the thick fabric cut to fit the seats with rivets or a tight seam made from synthetic thread for the seats;
  • think over movable fasteners that will allow the chairs to be installed when the structure is opened;
  • make a tabletop from MDF wood board (it will also be the sides when closed).

As a rule, the standard sizes of chairs used are 30 cm x 30 cm x 40 cm or 33 cm x 28 cm x 36 cm, and table sizes for four are chosen 85 cm x 82 cm x 70 cm or larger, for a company of six, 120 cm x 60 cm x 70 cm.

If you have plastic parts with large smooth surfaces on hand, you can use them. The most creative craftsmen can add LED lighting and speakers powered by a player to create such a table for two.

Homemade folding wooden picnic table

You can use a ready-made scheme for a simple and reliable design that can be easily used in your yard of a country house, on a summer cottage, or on the lawn in front of your house within the city if you live in the private sector. The drawing of a folding picnic table presented above can be used as a reference; the dimensions can be easily changed proportionally. But you can relax in comfort with this design anywhere. A practical and functional folding table can be easily painted in your favorite color or several colors, and when folded, can be used constantly as benches.

If you want to make the same table, you will only need boards cut to size and secured together as shown in the picture.

DIY picnic table

  • If you have a grinder and a welding machine, you can design a folding table with separate chairs that will fit inside the table when folded, which is convenient and compact for transportation.
  • The chipboard tabletop can be painted any color, but it is recommended to treat the side edges with an antiseptic.
  • A square profile made of ferrous metal is welded along the lower perimeter, then the same welded metal legs are attached inside it through pre-drilled holes, as shown in the figure.

For chairs, a square profile made of ferrous metal 20x20 mm in size is welded in the shape of the letter “P”. Their dimensions: internal part 450x280 mm, external 450x320 mm.

At the level of 230 mm, holes should be drilled through which the folding legs will be attached to each other.

To give the structure a beautiful appearance, the metal parts should be painted, PF-115 paint is suitable.

Seats made of awning fabric will make the chairs durable and easy to wash.

Your imagination will suggest other options that are more convenient for you.
