Drywall - sheet dimensions. Types of drywall: classification, types of edges, standard sizes Drywall sizes and types

This material indicates the technical characteristics of the plasterboard material: dimensions (thickness, width, length), the capabilities of plasterboard depending on the type, the weight of the sheet, its density, etc. data that is important to consider when calculating the installation of a particular plasterboard structure.

Drywall is a finishing and protective material consisting of a core (compressed gypsum with additives) and two layers of reinforcing cardboard (located on both sides of the core).

Is drywall harmful? No. The environmental friendliness of this material is confirmed by its composition: not a single type of drywall contains substances harmful to human health, the material is not flammable, which also eliminates the release of harmful substances during a fire in various types of premises.

Types of drywall

Photo 1 - Drywall is a finishing and protective sheet material consisting of three layers

The composition of drywall determines its types and properties

  • Drywall (GOST 6266-97) is divided into the following types:. Standard drywall - gypsum plasterboard does not contain additives Material color - gray (less often - blue)
  • . GKL is intended for work in rooms where the humidity level does not exceed 70%: used when working on interior partitions, decorative and sound-absorbing structures, suspended ceilings (there is a special type of plasterboard - ceiling).

Moisture-resistant drywall - gypsum board with hydrophobic and fungicidal additives, making it suitable for work in wet rooms. The color of the material is green.

GKLV can be used for covering walls, as well as ceilings in kitchens, bathrooms, toilets, as a base for floors and for covering window slopes.

  • Photo 2 - Arched plasterboard is a bendable sheet, which allows you to make structures of almost any shape from this material. GKLO contains a special reinforcing additive - glass fiber, which increases the resistance of drywall to fire and prevents the possibility of fire of this material. GKLO can be used as passive fire protection. GKLO is used in facilities with strict fire safety requirements, as well as in crowded places (shopping and entertainment centers, train stations, stadiums).
  • Moisture-resistant plasterboard with increased resistance to open flame - GKLVO. Today, only a few manufacturers (for example, KNAUF) are engaged in the production of this type of material.

IMPORTANT! Some people confuse the concepts by attributing a “fire resistance limit” to the material (in this case, drywall), although this concept can only be applied to the structure. While in relation to the material it is more correct to use the concept of “flammability group”. The flammability group can be not only for fire-resistant plasterboard, but also for any other type. For example, gypsum plasterboard corresponds to the G1 flammability group.

Drywall sheet size

A standard sheet of drywall has a rectangular shape and is available in the following sizes:

  • lengths from 2,000 to 4,000 mm;
  • widths from 600 to 1,200 mm;
  • thickness from 6.5 to 12.5 mm.

The standard size of plasterboard is determined by the area of its application: for example, arched plasterboard has parameters of 1,200/2,500/6 mm or 1,200/3,000/6 mm. The small thickness of the sheet makes it more plastic, but strength is important for moisture-resistant drywall, so these sheets are not produced thinner than 9.5 mm.

Drywall thickness

The thickness of plasterboard used in residential construction, as stated above, ranges from 6.5 mm to 12.5 mm. In this case, the thickness of the sheet varies depending on the purpose of the material.

For example, a minimum plasterboard thickness of 6.5 mm is used only in arched plasterboard sheets to improve the bending ability of the sheet.

Wall plasterboard has a thickness of 12.5 mm, ceiling plasterboard - 9.5 mm (sometimes 12.5 mm with a mandatory increase in the frequency of installation of the profile), moisture-resistant plasterboard and plasterboard - 12.5 mm each.

Drywall width

The standard width of plasterboard is 1,200 mm; with rare exceptions, plasterboard of a smaller width can be found on sale.

Drywall sheet weight

  • the weight of 1 m² of 6.5 mm thick plasterboard is about 5 kg;
  • the weight of 1 m² of plasterboard with a thickness of 9.5 mm is about 7.5 kg;
  • the weight of 1 m² of plasterboard with a thickness of 12.5 mm is about 9.5 kg.

How much does drywall weigh according to GOST?

According to GOST, the weight of 1 m² of drywall is

  • ordinary and moisture resistant - no more than 1 kg per millimeter of sheet thickness;
  • fire-resistant and moisture-fire-resistant - from 0.8 to 1.06 kg per millimeter of sheet thickness.

Now you know how much a sheet of drywall weighs, and you can calculate both your strength for carrying out installation work and the ability of the structure you have built to withstand such a load.

Drywall: characteristics (physical and mechanical)

The specific gravity or density of a material determines the weight per unit volume. Knowing the specific gravity of drywall, you can determine the weight of the mounted structure, and therefore correctly calculate the necessary fasteners.

  • The specific gravity of plasterboard is about 1,200-1,500 kg/m³.
  • Volumetric weight, knowing the specific gravity of the material used, can be determined by the formula:

weight (kg) = sheet thickness (mm)*1.35,

where 1.35 is const the average density of gypsum.

  • The thermal conductivity of plasterboard ranges from 0.22-0.35 W/mK (the lower this indicator, the better the material is a thermal insulator).
  • The bending strength of the material for sheet thickness up to 10 mm is 15 kg, for sheets from 10 to 18 mm - 18 kg. This characteristic shows how much weight a sheet of drywall can withstand without damage (at higher values, the material will crack).

In addition to drywall, it is important to know the parameters of the frame and its components.

Load-bearing, rack and guides for drywall: dimensions

Depending on the type of structure, drywall can be used for installation.

  • profiles CD 60, UD 27 (ceiling and wall structures, load-bearing profile);
  • CD 47 (ceiling-wall structures, load-bearing profile);
  • UD 47 (ceiling-wall structures, guide profile);
  • CW profile (partition structures, rack profile);
  • UW profile (partition structures, guide profile).

Drywall hanger (size, types)

Direct suspension is used to attach CD (PP) 60/27 profiles to the load-bearing base, which allows you to minimize the distance between the suspended and load-bearing ceiling structures.

A hanger with a clamp for a CD profile is used to fasten a suspended ceiling frame made of CD 60/27 profiles to a load-bearing base. The load-bearing capacity of the anchor suspension with traction is 25 kg.

Other frame elements (for example, screws and dowels) are selected according to the design being performed.

There's a lot you can make from plasterboard - it's not just suspended ceilings and walls, it's also boxes, niches, and interior partitions. There are a lot of options for what can be made from plasterboard, and in order to make a really high-quality plasterboard structure, you need to understand the types of material and its dimensions.

It is impossible to single out just one meaning. There are three common widths, three thicknesses and a length value. But it is not necessary that you need exactly a standard sheet. Compare the required parameters with those that are on sale.

The most common sheet sizes:

  • Width – 600 mm, and twice as large as 1200 mm;
  • Length or height – 2000 mm, as well as 4000 mm;
  • The thickness of the plasterboard sheet is 6.5 millimeters, 8 millimeters, 9.5 millimeters, 12.5 millimeters, 14 millimeters, 16 millimeters, 18 millimeters, 18.5 millimeters, 24 millimeters and 29 millimeters.

This is something you will definitely find on sale. If the work requires a special size, it can be ordered directly from the factory. Then in a pallet (pack) you will receive what you need for specific work.

These are online calculators where, for example, you enter the area of work (number of squares), some other values, and the calculator calculates exactly how much material it costs to purchase.

What size can a sheet of drywall be?

The length of one standard sheet of drywall varies from 2 to 3 meters. To be more precise, there are three lengths - 2 m, 2.5 m and, accordingly, 3 m. But there are manufacturers whose products you will find one and a half meter sheets, 2.7 m, 3.3 m and another 3.6 m .

When covering walls along the entire length of the wall, it makes sense to purchase long sheets. This is necessary in order to have fewer seams. There is no need to install jumpers either.

But let’s say your ceiling height is 2.7 m, and the length of the plasterboard sheets is 3 m, then there is no point in purchasing plasterboard of that length. There will be a lot of waste, and you will be exhausted when fiddling with slabs of such dimensions. It’s easier to buy gypsum boards of the right size.

Drywall thickness

The standard thickness of plasterboard is 6 mm, 9 mm and also 12.5 mm. You can also find an option with thickness parameters of 6.5 mm and, accordingly, 9.5 mm. Again, ordering slabs in a pallet directly from the manufacturer may assume the thickness that you need.

Fire-resistant and reinforced slabs are available in thicknesses:

  • 15 mm;
  • 18 mm;
  • 25 mm.

The thickness of the plasterboard board is explained by the purpose of its use. For example, thin six-millimeter sheets are used to construct arches and similar projects. But if a large bending radius is expected, it is unprofitable to use such slabs; flexible drywall is more expensive. Yes, and you will need twice as much of it, because the same arches are made in two layers.

Sheets with a thickness of 9 mm are intended for ceilings; they do not deform in the interprofile space. But they are not suitable for walls, they are not as durable. True, for ceilings it is more reasonable to select thicker sheets, plasterboard wall boards of twelve and a half millimeters. They are quite flexible and durable, easy to install. I must say that this is the most popular.

Parameters: drywall width

This parameter can also be called standard - 1.2 m. Because of this, racks for metal frames come in increments of either 0.4 or 0.6 m. However, on sale today there are light, convenient small sheets with half the size of a standard sheet width. The length of such a sheet is 0.6 m - 1.5/2 m.

These sheets are good because they are easy to place in a car, and they can be mounted alone, only when used on not very large surfaces. Otherwise there will be a lot of seams. Flexible types of drywall can also be narrow. For example, the GKLD brand from Giprok boasts a width of 0.9 m.

How much does a sheet of drywall weigh?

The weight of a plasterboard depends on its thickness. The thickness, in turn, as mentioned above, depends on the purpose of the plasterboard, on the type of drywall, and its characteristics. The thickness of the arched plasterboard is 6.5 mm, and the thickness of the ceiling plasterboard is 9.5 mm.

So, with a plasterboard thickness of 6.5 mm, the weight of the sheet will be 5 kg. A sheet with a thickness of 9.5 mm will weigh 7.5 kg. And the mass of a slab with a thickness of twelve and a half mm will be equal to 9.5 kg.

According to GOST, ordinary and moisture-resistant drywall should weigh no more than 1 kg for each millimeter of sheet thickness. A fire-resistant plasterboard sheet will weigh around 0.8 – 1.6 kg/mm of sheet thickness. These are standard requirements.

Why is it important to know the weight of drywall?

Knowing how much a plasterboard board weighs will allow you to calculate both the forces spent on installation work and the ability of the structure to withstand a particular load. It is also important to know how much weight a plasterboard sheet can support. This will avoid structural collapse or other defects.

To do this, you need to calculate the potential load per square meter. partitions or walls. If you want to hang something heavy, buy solid plasterboard sheets. They will withstand loads of up to 150 kg/sq.m. m. We are talking, for example, about structures such as a wall under a sink, or a wall under a water heater (they can withstand them).

GKL: sheet dimensions for independent calculation of material

You choose the size of the drywall only after all measurements of the room have been taken. Your task is to minimize the number of seams in the future drywall construction. And for this you need to choose the correct length, as well as correctly place the sheets on the plane.

Why do you need to draw a surface map:

  • If you are not a pro yet, then do not neglect intermediate, important work - first draw a surface map;
  • Such a map can be drawn on a piece of paper in a box, you choose the scale yourself;
  • By placing sheets on this map, you will clearly see everything: how many sheets and what size you will need.

But if you really don’t want to bother with drawings, then you can purchase drywall based on a simple principle - add about 15% of the reserve to the surface area.

The reserve must be taken into account. Those who are more experienced can add only 10% of the reserve, but beginners should “be generous” by 20%.

Again, I would like to remind you that online services will quickly do all the work for you. And if you don’t really trust them, contact a good sales consultant: he will advise you how much it costs to buy drywall. Well, if you don’t trust this option, then a specialist will give you a calculation for a small fee. This will be enough for greater confidence.

Why is drywall so popular?

This material has many advantages. The most important thing is that it is accessible and how to work with it is clear to everyone, at least in general terms. And, of course, it is taken into account that this is an environmentally friendly material. Not industrial chemicals, not something with a long composition, but a real, almost natural product.

Advantages of drywall:

  • This material can maintain a certain microclimate;
  • Any type of finish looks great on it, it fits any finish;
  • It is a material with excellent flexibility;
  • The range of applications of gypsum boards is extremely wide;
  • This is a non-flammable, fire-resistant material;
  • Its acidity level is comparable to the acidity level of human skin;
  • It is non-toxic material;
  • It is quite inexpensive;
  • The material is lightweight;
  • The possibility of treatment with special compounds, thanks to which the gypsum board will become even stronger, can become moisture-resistant or fire-resistant.

The buyer is also attracted by the fact that it is possible to install lamps inside the structure. The material has good sound insulation and low background radiation. Finally, it is easy to work with even for a beginner.

Drywall can be used to fill cavities and openings, create relief, and repair existing structures. Interesting design options from gypsum plasterboard are presented in the article:.

You can build entire architectural compositions - columns, arches, plinths, shelves. Plasterboard can be used to level walls, erect interior partitions, and finish the ceiling. The material can be used in both the kitchen and the bathroom.

Types and sizes of drywall (video)

Drywall material is, as they say, democratic. Skill, patience, strength, following the instructions, and you can make it into something that will definitely decorate your home.

Drywall is a universal building material used for finishing ceilings, walls, ventilation shafts and basements, as well as for the construction of various structures. A plasterboard sheet (GKL) is a kind of sandwich made of a couple of layers of construction cardboard, with a solid gypsum core in the middle. By adding various modifying additives to the gypsum composition, as well as impregnating the cardboard with special mixtures, the manufacturer achieves the production of plasterboard building materials with various functional characteristics.

Types of drywall according to general classification

  • GKL - ordinary plasterboard, is used for finishing domestic and office premises in which temperature and humidity parameters do not exceed permissible standards. Thus, air humidity up to 70% is considered normal. This species is gray in color with blue markings.
  • GKLO is a fire-resistant drywall, a special type that has increased resistance to open flame, which is achieved by adding reinforcing components to the core material. Used for finishing industrial premises, ventilation shafts, attics, electrical panels. GKLO has a gray color with red markings.
  • GKLV is a moisture-resistant drywall containing antifungal components and silicone granules in the gypsum composition, which allow the sheet to remain neutral to high humidity. For gypsum boards, impregnated cardboard is used. To achieve the best moisture resistance, it is recommended to protect the front side of the sheet with various coatings, for example: waterproof paints and primers, polyvinyl chloride, ceramic tiles, waterproofing. This type is used for finishing rooms with high humidity parameters: bathrooms, kitchens, garages. GKLV color is green with blue markings.
  • GKLVO is a moisture-resistant and fire-resistant plasterboard that combines the properties of the materials GKLV and GKLO. It is used for finishing industrial premises with high humidity and increased requirements for compliance with fire safety standards. GKLVO color is green with red markings.

In addition to dividing into varieties, different types of drywall have different types of edges.

Varieties by type of edge

  • PC – straight edge. Designed for dry installation and does not require laying joints. It is used when covering the surface in several layers, for internal layers.
  • UK – thinned edge. It is used when gluing with reinforcing tape followed by putty.
  • ZK – rounded edge. Used when using putty, but without reinforcing tape.
  • PLC – edge, semicircular on the front side. It is used without reinforcing tape, with further putty.
  • PLUK - an edge, semicircular and thinned on the front side. Requires the use of reinforcing tape and putty.

More often than others, types of drywall with beveled edges UK and PLUK are used, since they allow seams to be sealed without the formation of protrusions.

Standard sizes for plasterboard sheets

Sheet length – 2500 mm or 3000 mm. Some manufacturers have sheets of shorter lengths, but they are more expensive, although they are easier to work with.

Width – 1200 mm.

Thickness – 6 mm, 9 mm, 12.5 mm. Small thicknesses are used for covering curved surfaces and creating arches. Some experts suggest using 9 mm sheet for finishing ceilings. There is, however, an opinion that ceiling cladding, like wall cladding, requires a sheet thickness of 12.5 mm.

    Raisa managed to level the walls using drywall. And I saved money and hired cheap specialists. They didn't take the measurements correctly. Now my room is shaped like a parallelogram. Especially noticeable on the ceiling. Advice, don’t skimp on employees!

    After reading the article, I learned that there is 6 mm thick drywall. Although in most stores there are mainly 2 sizes to choose from - 9 mm and 12.5 mm. Of course, making arches and various structures with thin plaster is much more convenient. But we had to take regular thick drywall, make a notch on the back side or cut it into strips, moisten it with water and wait for the sheet to bend.

    We are doing renovations in a recently purchased house, everything in it is crooked, both the walls and the ceilings. We took drywall of various thicknesses and leveled everything. After covering the walls with wallpaper and the ceiling with tiles, everything looks just perfect.

    there was a case, I had to “build” a new house inside an old box. Naturally, all the walls and ceiling were made of plaster. Here are some useful takeaways:
    – to prevent cracks from appearing at the joints, you need to glue them with mesh before applying putty. This self-adhesive tape is sold. It reinforces the plaster layer and it does not crack.
    – when cutting sheets, it is not necessary to mark the parts with a pencil. Small cuts with a cutter are enough, they are very clearly visible, in case of an error they are not critical, and there is one less step in the work - it still turns out faster.
    – the basis for success is high-quality installation of a frame made of profiles. If it is done efficiently and evenly, then installing drywall is a pleasure.

    I covered the ceiling and boxes in the kitchen with sheets 9 mm thick. We decided that 6 is a bit thin, 12.5 mm is heavy and requires additional fastenings. The ceiling turned out great and has been standing for several years. The main problem is vibrations and vibrations from above (I don’t have strong reinforced concrete floors in my kitchen). Therefore, over time, cracks form at the joints of the gypsum boards, but this is not critical. And you should definitely not skimp on moisture-resistant sheets in the kitchen. Additional investments in moisture-resistant drywall are completely worth it!

Gypsum plasterboard (GKL) is one of the building materials that has practically no opponents. The durability, strength and excellent appearance of sheathed ceilings and walls, constructed boxes and partitions, and designer figured structures have been tested over years of operation. When starting repair work, it is important to understand the types of gypsum boards and base your calculations on the dimensions of the drywall.

General information and characteristics of the main types of drywall

The material used in “dry” construction technology, the smooth surface of which is easy to paint, wallpaper and ceramic tiles, consists of a core with external cardboard reinforcement of both planes and edges along the length of the sheet. The core material is gypsum. To obtain certain properties of a plasterboard sheet, special additives are mixed into the gypsum.

For all brands, the mass distribution of constituent materials is within the following limits:

  • 90%-94% – gypsum;
  • 4%-6% – reinforcing cardboard;
  • 1%-2% – other components and special additives.

In the nomenclature of most plasterboard manufacturers, the main types of sheet material are:

  1. GKL is an ordinary plasterboard sheet (can also be called standard, construction, basic). This is the most popular and widely used type of material for interior work in rooms with low humidity. Suitable for installation on all types of surfaces: vertical, horizontal, curved. A regular sheet can be easily identified by the gray color of the cardboard layer. The standard size of drywall for gypsum board sheets has the following parameters, mm: 2700 (length) x 1200 (width) x 9.5 (thickness).
  2. GKLV is a marking of moisture-resistant drywall, used in all cases like gypsum board, and also suitable for furnishing premises with an expected humidity of up to 85%. During the production of the material, hydrophobic modifiers and silicone granules are added to gypsum, which reduce moisture absorption. The surface of the gypsum board is treated with anti-fungus and mold agents. The resistance of the material to moisture is increased by additional coatings after installation: paint, ceramic tiles, a layer of waterproofing, water-repellent primer, plastic panels. In addition to standard use, waterproof plasterboard is suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, insulated loggias, attic rooms, showers, and swimming pools. Cardboard color is green. 2500x1200x12.5 mm is the size of a gypsum plasterboard sheet, which is considered standard.
  3. GKLO - this is the designation for fire-resistant plasterboard sheet. Special additives for gypsum and impregnation of cardboard (of which there are several layers in this material) with special compounds allow the material to dry for up to 20 minutes. withstand the pressure of an open flame. GKLO helps to protect walls and ceilings near fireplaces and stoves, in saunas, baths and boiler rooms, ducts with installed wiring, attics and other high-risk rooms. Fire-resistant sheets are in demand for organizing partitions and covering surfaces in offices, premises of public organizations, and enterprises. When choosing, you should take into account the higher cost and weight of the material. Cardboard sheets have pink color shades. The standard size of a plasterboard sheet is the same as gypsum board.

Special purpose gypsum boards

In addition to the considered types of popular drywall, there is a line of special-purpose panels. Here is a list of some of them:

  • GKLVO - the material combines the qualities of moisture-resistant and fire-resistant plasterboard.
  • GKLF - facade panels for cladding buildings, capable of withstanding the effects of atmospheric changes.
  • High-strength gypsum board reinforced with multilayer cardboard and fiberglass.
  • Designer (flexible) gypsum board with a thickness of 6 mm is suitable for covering arched openings and designer wave-like structures.
  • Gypsum fiber sheets, with an admixture of cellulose fibers to gypsum, are suitable for outdoor work, installation of floor coverings, and work in damp areas.

GCRs are also produced that can shield X-ray radiation, provide additional noise and heat insulation for walls, and conduct heat well when covering underfloor heating systems.

According to the method of application, they distinguish wall plasterboard, acoustic, ceiling, arched, restoration, laminated. The dimensions of the ceiling plasterboard allow you to reduce the weight of the ceiling structure (due to the thickness of 8-9.5 mm) and save on elements of the frame system.

Dimensions of plasterboard sheets

Standard sizes of gypsum boards are not strictly required for use during construction work. There are no restrictions in selecting the material of the most suitable sizes and characteristics. Each master makes a choice based on specific parameters and operating conditions of the premises. Therefore, the market, responding to demand, offers a large selection of standard sizes of drywall. Product sheet dimensions may vary within the following limits:

  • Length, m – 2-4.
  • Width, m – 0.6 or 1.2.
  • Thickness, mm – 6-24.

Helpful information! The most popular sizes among home and professional craftsmen are the following sizes of plasterboard sheets: width - 1.2 m; length – 2.5-3 m; thickness – in the range of 6-12.5 mm. For independent work, especially when installing a whole sheet, the products are inconvenient. In this case, buying small-sized drywall helps out. True, the cost of the product itself and the entire complex of construction work will increase, because additional joints will have to be sealed.

When selecting materials and making preliminary calculations, a table of the main parameters of gypsum boards of well-known brands will be useful.

The table is supplemented by a column with the specific gravity of a certain drywall. This value depends on the linear parameters of the material and should not be neglected. Knowing the weight, they determine the amount of necessary fasteners, select the desired profile, calculate the load on the elements of the house structure, and determine the number of ceiling hangers.

Before choosing the sizes of gypsum boards and determining their quantity, you need to take measurements of the surfaces on which the sheets will be mounted. Then a surface map is drawn on a piece of paper. On the same scale, they are trying to place gypsum boards of different sizes on the plan. The main task is to place the sheets rationally, with a minimum amount of butt seams and material waste. The map will clearly show the number of sheets and in what sizes you need to purchase. To make the task easier, there are online services that will promptly present suitable options based on the individual data entered. If you don’t have time to draw up a map, buy drywall with a 10-15% margin, choose the sheet size from the standard range.

Buy only quality material

Buyer Tips:

  1. Make a purchase at a large retail chain whose warehouses do not stock the goods.
  2. If possible, evaluate the storage conditions and microclimate of the store warehouse.
  3. Take the time to inspect each slab. Set aside sheets that have scratches, loose paper, dents, damaged cores, or other defects.

Determining the right type of gypsum board of the required thickness, choosing high-quality material from a well-known and reliable manufacturer, and high-quality construction work guarantee the expected result from the repair. And correctly selected sheet sizes and a drawn up plan for their installation will minimize the amount of waste and help to save significantly.

Drywall is a real salvation for those who have started renovations in their apartment or private house. The fact is that such a simple type of building material allows you to transform a room overnight, depriving yourself of the “pleasure” of carrying out a series of dirty work. It is noteworthy that self-installation of drywall is quite simple, and the speed with which all work on installing gypsum boards is carried out is simply fantastically high. Naturally, before running to the construction market for this fabulous material, it would be nice to know about its main characteristics. For example, do you know what the weight of the sheet is and how many of them are needed to carry out the work you have chosen?

What is drywall?

Everything ingenious is simple! In order to create a perfectly flat surface, and this is precisely what the material we are considering is intended for, you need two sheets of thick cardboard and a filling of a hardened mixture of gypsum with various additives. That's the whole secret of this miracle material. GCR is used everywhere: it is used to create perfectly flat ceilings and walls; many people make interesting-shaped original niches in the wall, etc.

Standard sizes

The typical or standard size is as follows: length - 2500 mm, width - 1200 mm, thickness - 12.5 mm. However, the length of the sheet can vary from 2 to 4 meters, with the pitch usually being 50 mm. As for the width, there is little choice: in addition to standard products with a width of 1200 mm, there are also 600 mm. But the thickness can vary depending on the functional purpose: from 6.5 to 24 mm. The most commonly used are 9.5 and 12 mm varieties. Accordingly, the weight of the sheet varies depending on its parameters.

How much does the leaf weigh?

This question is often asked by people who have had a bad experience studying a school physics course. Most likely, they are interested in mass, measured in kilograms, and not in weight, the measure of which is the notorious Newtons. However, to the question “How much does a plasterboard sheet weigh?” the answer will be: “A standard plasterboard sheet 1200 mm wide, 2500 mm long, and about 12 mm thick will weigh approximately 30 kg. Accordingly, we reduce any of the parameters, for example, take a sheet of ceiling material and get a mass of approximately 25 kg.” About 93% of the total mass is the mass of gypsum with additives. The rest comes from cardboard and moisture absorbed into the materials. So before you think about how to properly attach drywall, it would be a good idea to use one of the family members as an assistant - it is almost impossible to carry out the installation alone.

Kinds

Plasterboard sheets, which are most often used when carrying out repair work, are ordinary and moisture-resistant. Moreover, the properties of the material depend on the additives that are added to the gypsum layer. Moisture-resistant gypsum plasterboard is characterized by low water absorption: two times lower than that of a regular one. Accordingly, moisture-resistant material, the characteristics of which are best suited for installation in wet rooms, is more expensive than usual. It is often used for bathrooms, kitchens, etc. It can be distinguished from ordinary cardboard by the color of the cardboard: moisture-resistant - green, for ordinary premises - gray.

Types of material by purpose
Designation View a brief description of Cardboard color Marking color
GKL Regular grey blue
GKLO With increased resistance to open flames They differ from conventional ones by special reinforcing additives in the core material grey red
GKLV Moisture resistant They differ from conventional ones in special impregnated cardboard, as well as hydrophobic and antifungal additives in the core material green blue
GKLVO Moisture-resistant with increased resistance to open flames They differ from conventional ones in the combination of properties of GKLO and GKLV green red

The calculation of the required materials is carried out taking into account the cladding area and a ten percent reserve. You should also pay attention to the types of profiles for drywall, since each of them is used for specific types of work.
