Girona Airport (Aeroport de Girona - Costa Brava), Barcelona, Spain. Girona Airport: how to get to Barcelona and Girona What is brava at the airport

Gerona Airport (Girona or Girona) is considered Barcelona's second airport. It is located 92 kilometers from the Catalan capital. From it it is convenient to travel to the beach resorts of the Costa Brava and Costa del Maresme, to the ski resorts in the Pyrenees in Spain, Andorra and France.

Mostly low-cost airlines fly to this airport, including the Russian Pobeda.

The online flight board can be found on the airport’s official website or on another of its websites.

Confusion often arises: the name of the city Girona can be written as Gerona. Both options are correct, one is in Spanish, the other is in Catalan.

Features of Girona Airport

Girona Costa Brava airport is small. There are no gates, so be prepared for the fact that you will have to walk to the building or back to the plane.

There are few booths at the border control, so there is a long queue in front of them and crossing the border can take 20-40 minutes.

There is also usually no rush to hand out luggage; don’t expect to be able to get out of the airport quickly.

Girona Airport services

On the territory of the Girona airport there are travel offices, a VIP lounge, and a business center. Wi-Fi works well - free, without a password, but with registration.

Passport control is located at the far end of the airport, behind it there is nothing in the storage area: no shops, no cafes, not even toilets.

Duty Free shops at Girona Airport

Despite the small size of the airport itself, it has a full-fledged large Duty Free store with the usual assortment: they sell local wines and alcohol from all over the world, regional Spanish products (cheeses, jamon), and there is also the usual set of cosmetic brands.

Car rental at Girona Airport

There are many car rental companies at Girona Airport. Many tourists rent a car, so it is better to book everything in advance, otherwise there may not be any available cars.

All rental cars are parked in a separate parking lot, which is located behind the public parking lot. That is, you need to go through the parking lot that you see from the terminal, behind it you will see another building, and there are already signs for offices there.

How to get from Girona Airport to Barcelona

The most convenient way is to take the Sagales bus. A one-way ticket costs 16 euros, a round-trip ticket costs 25 euros. Travel time is 1 hour 15 minutes. In Barcelona, the bus arrives at Estació del Nord - a bus station 100 meters from the Arc de Triomphe. The bus schedule can be viewed on the company's official website. Tickets are sold both online and at the box office on site.

You can also get there by public transport in a more complicated way: take a bus to Girona, and then transfer to the train in this city. It makes sense if you have time and want to see this beautiful city.

If you want to get to Barcelona by taxi, you will have to call the car by phone. Since there are few takers, taxi drivers do not wait at the airport. The cost of a trip to the capital of Catalonia is approximately 130-150 euros.

Girona Airport is 103 km (64.2 miles) northeast of Barcelona, or 1 hour 20 minutes by train from Barcelona city centre.

Some low-cost airlines mention Barcelona in their Girona airport description to let you know that by flying into these smaller airports you will be able to get to your final destination, Barcelona.

It is also worth noting that Girona is often written with an “e” - Gerona. Both options are correct, but one is in Spanish and the other is in Catalan.

What is better - taxi or transfer?

It is customary to order a taxi in Spain by phone. If the trip is long, you will have to discuss the cost of waiting, tariff, return fee, and not every driver will agree to go, for example, from Tossa de Mar to Costa Brava airport.

Maria, Nizhnevartovsk:

“We arrived late, and there were three more flights in one day, so we decided to spend the night at the Viloby Park hotel. Modest, but clean, all the amenities, the employees speak English with difficulty. For the three of us we paid about 90 euros with breakfast, and we took the morning bus to Blanes.”

If you want to explore Girona (and it's worth it), it makes sense to take a taxi to the city center(35-40 euros) and stay for a couple of days in a hotel or inexpensive hostel.

Have a nice rest! We look forward to your feedback on traveling in Spain.

Girona-Costa Brava Airport is not able to compete with El Prat, but has its own specifics: it is the hub of the low-cost airline Ryanair, which provides a fairly dense passenger flow of those wishing to visit resorts, visit Andorra and France. For many, Costa Brava Airport is the starting point of their journey through tourist Europe.

How to get to the resorts of the Costa Brava

You can get to any city on the Costa Brava from the nearest airports by numerous buses, trains, as well as by taxi and transfer.

The main disadvantage of public transport is that it is tied to a specific schedule. Buses and trains from the terminals or nearby stations leave approximately once an hour. At Girona airport, transport flights are coordinated with the arrival of aircraft, and the latter departs after seven in the evening. There are even separate routes that cover the north of the region (Figueres, Roses, Pineda de Mar, Calella, Tossa de Mar) and even go to France and Andorra.

Trains are distinguished by a letter index indicating the speed of travel: CE class takes about 70 minutes, R - one and a half hours. A new high-speed line, LGV Perpignan-Figueres, is also under construction.

Road traffic in the region is carried out along several major highways: C-25, connecting Lleda and Girona, N-II and the toll road towards France E-15/AP-7 - when ordering a taxi, you will have to pay for it separately. If public transport and taxis from Barcelona to the Costa Brava are not suitable for some reason, you can rent a car or order a transfer.

Transfer to Costa Brava

If you have a large amount of luggage, small children or are accustomed to a high level of comfort, the transfer service to Costa Brava resorts from nearby airports will be unrivaled.

The cost is calculated flexibly depending on the route, the required number of seats for passengers and the type of car. But in any case, tourists receive a high-class personal service with a number of main advantages:

  • Car delivery directly to the terminal and delivery to the hotel or accommodation;
  • Exact time of delivery of the car and delivery to the destination;
  • Fixed pre-agreed payment;
  • No surcharges or hidden fees;
  • English or Russian speaking drivers;
  • Personal approach and service;
  • Possibility to order a transfer in advance both ways.
