Gerona Airport (Girona or Girona) is considered Barcelona's second airport. It is located 92 kilometers from the Catalan capital. From it it is convenient to travel to the beach resorts of the Costa Brava and Costa del Maresme, to the ski resorts in the Pyrenees in Spain, Andorra and France.

Confusion often arises: the name of the city Girona can be written as Gerona. Both options are correct, one is in Spanish, the other is in Catalan.
Features of Girona Airport
Girona Costa Brava airport is small. There are no gates, so be prepared for the fact that you will have to walk to the building or back to the plane.
There are few booths at the border control, so there is a long queue in front of them and crossing the border can take 20-40 minutes.
There is also usually no rush to hand out luggage; don’t expect to be able to get out of the airport quickly.

On the territory of the Girona airport there are travel offices, a VIP lounge, and a business center. Wi-Fi works well - free, without a password, but with registration.
Passport control is located at the far end of the airport, behind it there is nothing in the storage area: no shops, no cafes, not even toilets.

How to get from Girona Airport to Barcelona
The most convenient way is to take the Sagales bus. A one-way ticket costs 16 euros, a round-trip ticket costs 25 euros. Travel time is 1 hour 15 minutes. You can also get there by public transport in a more complicated way: take a bus to Girona, and then transfer to the train in this city. It makes sense if you have time and want to see this beautiful city.
If you want to get to Barcelona by taxi, you will have to call the car by phone. Since there are few takers, taxi drivers do not wait at the airport. The cost of a trip to the capital of Catalonia is approximately 130-150 euros.
Girona Airport is 103 km (64.2 miles) northeast of Barcelona, or 1 hour 20 minutes by train from Barcelona city centre.

Barcelona Bus
The Barcelona Bus is probably the most convenient way to transfer between Girona Airport and Barcelona city centre. The bus belongs to an independent company not directly related to Ryan Air. However, the Barcelona Bus schedule is designed in such a way that it coincides with the RyanAir flight schedule.

The bus stops right outside the airport and will take you to Estació d" Autobusos Barcelona Nord(Barcelona main bus station) in the center of Barcelona. There you can change to metro to get to your desired location. The closest metro station to the bus station is metro Arc de Triomf (Red Line, L1). You will have to leave through the exit Sortida Napols. The metro station is located just 5 - 10 minutes walk from the bus station.

Girona Costa Brava International Airport is located 12 km from the central part of Girona. It is one of the ten most popular airports in Spain.

To Girona
The fastest way to get to the Girona bus station (Estació d’Autobusos de Girona) is by Sarfa Bus: they arrive at the bus station in 15-20 minutes. They run from 5:00 am to 00:30 at night.

Also, the Sagales Airport Line number 607 bus goes to Girona bus station every hour. The first flight departs at 5.30 am, and the last flight at 11.30 pm. The duration of the trip is 30 minutes.

To Barcelona
The Sagales Airport Line bus number 604 departs from the airport terminal to the Estacio del Nord bus station in Barcelona approximately every hour from 8.45 am to 11.30 pm.
Travel time is about 1 hour 10 minutes. A one-way ticket costs 16 Euros, and a round-trip ticket costs 25 Euros.
To Blanes
In just 50 minutes you can reach the famous resort on the Costa Brava - Blanes. The Sagales Airport Line bus number 601 operates daily at 8.55 am.
The ticket price is about 10 Euro.
To Calella
You can get to Calella by Sagales Airport Line bus number 605. The journey will take you about 35 minutes.
Flights operate at 9.00, 13.15, 16.45 and 19.00. The bus makes stops in Blanes, Santa Susanna and La Pineda.
A ticket will cost approximately 10 Euros.
To Lloret de Mar
If your destination is Lloret de Mar, the easiest way to get there is by Sagales Airport Line bus number 613, which goes through Tossa de Mar, Blanes, Santa Susanna, La Pineda, Calella. The drive is 35-40 minutes.
Flights operate approximately every hour from 9:00 am to 9:15 pm.

By taxi
A taxi can be ordered at the airport from the official service, whose counters are located in the arrivals area.
On average, a trip around the city will cost about 30-40 Euros, based on the distance, and to hotels on the Costa Brava - 50 Euros.
Transfer from airport
Another option is a private transfer from the airport. If you arrange it in advance, the driver will be waiting for you at the airport upon arrival with a name plate. The choice of brand and type of car is yours. The price of the trip is fixed.
You can take a car for 1-4 people, a minivan for 5-7 people, or a minibus for a group of no more than 16 people and get to either Girona or Barcelona.

From a small airfield to a large transport hub
The first airplane landed in the vicinity of Girona in 1913, and in 1934 the Cerdanya airfield appeared for communication between the towns of Catalonia and the Pyrenees.

Direct flights from Moscow
In May 2016, the low-cost airline Pobeda received permission to fly to Girona-Costa Brava Airport. So far, 2 flights have been launched - they depart from Vnukovo on Thursday and Sunday. Flights with transfers

Compact and convenient
The Costa Brava Airport building is two-level. On the first one there are check-in counters, on the second one there is a departure area. In a small area there is everything - counters of travel agencies, offices of car rental companies, a first-aid post, bank branches, a VIP room.
You can drink coffee, snack on fresh buns and specialty pastries, or have a hearty meal at the 24-hour Caffriccio cafe, McDonald's and Subway (from 5 am to 11 am).

There are two duty-free shops at the airport terminal- Aldeasa with traditional alcoholic drinks, perfumes, cosmetics, jewelry and clothing and Divers with local goods, food and souvenirs.

To Girona
Bus number 607 goes to the city bus station every hour from 5:30 to 23:30(one way ticket - 2.75, round trip - 5.25 euros, travel time - 29 minutes).
A trip on Sarfa Bus will be faster (15-20 minutes) and cheaper- 2.15, round trip - 4.1 euros. They depart from Palamos and call at Aeroport Girona at 01:15, 5:45, 09:15, 11:15, 16:45 and 8:45.

To the train station and Barcelona airport
You can get to Barcelona at intervals of 1-1.5 hours by bus number 604 (Barcelona Bus). The first departs at 8:45, the last at 18:30, there are 2 flights at night - at 23:45 and at 0:15.

From the airport you can reach most coastal cities without transfers:

What is better - taxi or transfer?
It is customary to order a taxi in Spain by phone. If the trip is long, you will have to discuss the cost of waiting, tariff, return fee, and not every driver will agree to go, for example, from Tossa de Mar to Costa Brava airport.

Girona-Costa Brava Airport is not able to compete with El Prat, but has its own specifics: it is the hub of the low-cost airline Ryanair, which provides a fairly dense passenger flow of those wishing to visit resorts, visit Andorra and France. How to get to the resorts of the Costa Brava

Road traffic in the region is carried out along several major highways: C-25, connecting Lleda and Girona, N-II and the toll road towards France E-15/AP-7 - when ordering a taxi, you will have to pay for it separately. If public transport and taxis from Barcelona to the Costa Brava are not suitable for some reason, you can rent a car or order a transfer.
